Navigating Out of an Element
When you have selected an element, any text you enter will become part of the element’s contents. However, you may want to move out of the element to add regular Word content that is not part of any element.
To make navigate out of an element so you can make changes just before or after the element, complete the following task.
To navigate immediately out of an element
- Position the cursor at the very end of the element text, then press the right arrow key.
In the following example, you would place your cursor right after the period:

- Position the cursor at the beginning of the element text (in the example above, right before the “T”). Then, press the left arrow key
The element content control is no longer highlighted:
If you begin entering text, it will not be added to the element.
